Bow down! This is the Queen album that brought songs like "We Are the Champions" and "We Will Rock You" to our ears. This vinyl figure and box expertly recreate the cover of 1977's News of the World, which was originally painted by American sci-fi artist Frank Kelly Freas in the 1950s. Display in the box for the full effect! The case measures approximately 9 1/4 x 8 3/4 x 3 1/2-inches and the figure is 3 3/4 inches tall.
"The album title, News of the World, came from a British Sunday tabloid, and the cover, with a robot having accidentally killed the band, was made by artist Frank Kelly Freas, who in 1953 had illustrated the cover of the October edition of Astounding Science Fiction. The cover featured a robot holding a dead man, with the legend, "Please... fix it, Daddy?" and was made to represent Tom Godwin's tale The Gulf Between. Roger Taylor, a science fiction fan, had the magazine and proposed that the band get in touch with the artist and ask him to change the concept, putting the band in the place of the dead man. The contact was made, and Frank Kelly Freas accepted the proposal."
"News of The World presented to the world of music some of the songs that would become true rock classics. The resounding commercial success at the time of its release earned Queen platinum certificates in markets such as the US and UK, as well as reaching the top of the charts worldwide." PopCorn Princes
